I recently went to Dr. Patrick Sequeira-Byron because I had a metal filling that was failing, and my regular dentist could not address the problem. Earlier this year, I had felt twinges of pain in a molar that had a metal filling in the exposed portion of the root. I went to my regular dentist, who said the root looked fine but that I should get a CBCT (3D) scan at the local root canal specialists’ office. I paid a lot of money to have that scan, only to be told by the root canal specialist that “the filling is leaking” and that sooner or later I would need a root canal. The root canal doctor even suggested I get a “pre-emptive” root canal now. This didn’t seem right to me, so I asked a different dentist in my usual office, who said to just leave the filling and tooth alone – don’t do anything.
