Who are we?
The Swiss Free Mountain Horse Federation (FSFM) is an association within the meaning of Articles 60ff of the Swiss Civil Code. It was founded in 1997. Since 1999, it has been recognized as an official breeding organization by the Federal Office for Agriculture on the basis of the Federal Ordinance on Breeding. The Swiss Free Mountain Horse Federation is composed of ordinary collective members, ordinary individual members, extraordinary members, and honorary members.
Ordinary members include both individual ordinary members and collective ordinary members. Collective ordinary members are breeding associations and organizations that recognize and observe the breeding program and related instructions and whose members breed Franches-Montagnes horses. Breeders are, in principle, members of the breeding association that operates in their area of residence. Ordinary individual members are breeders of Freiberger horses who are not members of a breeding association or organization and who recognize and observe the breeding program and related instructions.
Extraordinary members are:
a) regional or cantonal associations of breeding syndicates or organizations for the Freiberger horse breed that support the efforts of the Swiss Freiberger Federation;
b) other organizations that support the breeding of Franches-Montagnes horses and promote their use.
Honorary members are individuals who have made a special contribution to the promotion of Freiberger horses.
All ordinary individual members together form one ordinary collective member in accordance with these statutes.
The Swiss Freiberger Federation is the keeper of the breed's original stud book.
The Swiss Freiberger Federation aims to develop, encourage, and promote the breeding and use of Freiberger horses. In its activities, the Swiss Freiberger Federation prioritizes the principle of purebred breeding.
The Swiss Freiberger Federation achieves its goals by developing:
a breeding program and stud book regulations;
an action strategy at regular intervals;
a marketing and promotion concept.
The Swiss Free-Range Horse Federation also carries out the following activities:
maintaining the stud book;
organizing selection and performance tests as well as competitions for different categories of horses;
participating in events (breeding and promotion) and exhibitions;
promoting training and showcasing horses;
training breeders and horse users, as well as people active within the Swiss Freiberger Federation;
providing technical and economic advice to breeding syndicates and organizations, breeders, and horse users.
