The range of services offered by orthopedic shoe technology is divided into two main groups:

1. Minor orthopedics
2. Major orthopedics

1. Minor orthopedics includes aids such as insoles, shoe modifications, special and orthopedic series shoes, comfort shoes, medical aids such as toe pressure protection, bandages, standardized ankle orthoses, support bandages, compression stockings, viscoelastic wedges, etc. Insurance coverage varies greatly. For example, insoles or comfort shoes are not covered by basic health insurance, but SUVA, for example, covers the costs of insoles or stabilizing shoes. Depending on the insurance contract in the supplementary insurance policies, benefits are provided for insoles. Such claims must be clarified in each individual case.

2. Heavy orthopedics includes custom-made orthopedic shoes and inner shoe or lower leg orthoses. These are in the upper price segment and are covered by partial benefits from social insurance. Only certified orthopedic shoemakers are authorized to supply them.
