For Vincenzo, dancing is first and foremost a passion. He started with breakdancing and then moved on to tap dancing. In 1994, he discovered tango, and in the following years he had the good fortune to study with some of the greats of the old guard: Juan Carlos Copes, Rodolfo Cieri, Pepito Avellaneda, Mingo Pugliese, Teté, and others. In 2000, he joined Adriana in Madrid, leaving behind a well-established tango school in Ticino and the Association of Friends of Argentine Tango, which he had co-founded the previous year.
Adriana, whose dream had always been to dance, decided in 1997 to leave for Spain to study at the famous Amor de Dios flamenco academy in Madrid. There she took classes in flamenco, tango, and classical dance. Her frequent visits to milongas made her realize that tango was the dance that suited her best.
Since 2000, Vincenzo and Adriana have been a couple in dance and in life, establishing their base in Madrid with frequent trips and stays in Buenos Aires. During those years, their encounter with Dana Frigoli and Pablo Villaraza marked a radical change in their way of dancing and teaching tango. In 2005, coinciding with the birth of their first child, they returned to Ticino and resumed the tango school they had started in Locarno. The following year, they also opened a branch in Bellinzona.
In 2010, they moved back to Buenos Aires, where they had a unique professional experience. During their stay in Argentina, they took part in several shows and had the honor of dancing in two important theaters in the capital. They also performed at the famous Sunderland milonga in Buenos Aires and at the DNI studio milonga.
In 2011, they were chosen, along with about twenty other European couples, to be part of a working group led by Mariano Chicho Frumboli, a great contemporary dancer.
In 2015, they formed the 1881 Tango Academy, with the aim of creating a larger space where they could live their passion for tango and dance, but also share moments of cultural and personal growth, in order to generate new energy and new emotions.
The 1881 Tango Academy, renamed in 2015, traces its origins back to the first Argentine tango school founded in Ticino in 1994 thanks to the initiative and passion of Vincenzo Muollo.
Since then, more than twenty years have passed, characterized by constant commitment and hard work to try to bring as many people as possible closer to this art form, which was declared a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2011.
In 2005, Vincenzo Muollo and Adriana Juri joined forces to create a school that would stand out for the quality of its lessons. One of the principles of their teaching is to start with an in-depth analysis of the body's functionality and then develop a method of application to dance.
The goal of the 1881 Tango Academy is to train independent dancers who are aware of their bodies and have absolute control over their positioning, so that they understand how men and women connect, giving rise to a smooth and natural dance.
Adriana and Vincenzo, with their innovative yet traditional style, express harmony, sensuality, and refinement, combining the intensity of traditional tango with the new dynamics of contemporary tango.
