The UIAA (Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme) is the international governing body for mountaineering and climbing sports. Founded in 1932, it represents 94 member organizations from 73 countries on six continents, comprising 70 full members, one unit member, 17 associate members, and six observer members. The organization is dedicated to promoting safe and sustainable mountain sports, establishing safety standards for climbing equipment, organizing international competitions including the Ice Climbing World Tour, advocating for mountain protection and sustainability, and supporting youth mountaineering programs. The UIAA operates from its office in Bern, Switzerland, with a dedicated staff managing daily operations and numerous commissions focusing on safety, medical issues, mountain protection, and competitive sports.
