The Haldimann Eye Clinic is a private practice that Dr. Thomas Haldimann has been running since 1999 as the third generation of his family to do so. We specialize in preventive examinations for glaucoma and cataract surgery. Dr. Thomas Haldimann is an attending physician for outpatient cataract surgery at the Siloah Clinic in Gümligen. This allows him to accompany you as a patient throughout the entire process.

Dr. Haldimann specializes in cataract surgery. However, he also routinely performs preliminary examinations, consultations, and other additional ophthalmological examinations and treatments.

Preventive examination for glaucoma

Early detection is crucial, especially in the case of glaucoma. This is because glaucoma can cause irreversible damage to the optic nerve.

At our practice, we measure eye pressure and the peripapillary nerve fiber layer (using optical coherence tomography, OCT), check your visual field (computer perimetry), and perform a biomicroscopic assessment of the optic nerve head.

Another important examination is that of the back of the eye to detect macular degeneration or retinal changes. These occur particularly in connection with diabetes and high blood pressure.

A vision test is also part of the standard check-up. We test your visual acuity and determine whether you are nearsighted (myopia) or farsighted (hyperopia), have astigmatism, or presbyopia. If necessary, you will then receive a prescription for glasses.

Cataract surgery

A cataract is an eye disease, usually age-related, in which the lens becomes cloudy. This impairs vision. Patients see blurred, foggy, and hazy images. The most effective treatment is surgery to replace the cloudy lens with an artificial lens.

Dr. Haldimann performs cataract surgery as an attending physician at the Siloah Clinic in Gümligen. The outpatient procedure is performed under local anesthesia (eye drops and intravenous sedation) after a preliminary examination at the practice and a detailed consultation. During the operation, the patient's circulation is monitored by the anesthesia team at the Siloah Clinic.

Before the operation, we contact the patient's family doctor to obtain information about their general health and any risk factors.

Wrinkle treatment

Dr. Haldimann performs treatments to reduce expression lines in the upper half of the face, especially frown lines. The treatment involves injections of botulinum toxin into the facial muscles responsible for the wrinkles. It must be repeated approximately every three to six months.
