Wood procurement
We procure the wood we need as follows:
- Forest wood: from various forest owners, wood marketing organizations, and forestry companies in our catchment area
- Waste wood: from suppliers in the Bern region
- Our own wood
- Sawmill wood: from sawmills in the Bern region
- Landscape maintenance wood: purchased within a 30 km radius, depending on availability
We conclude 10-year contracts with forest and waste wood suppliers.
Wood processing
In the green wood sector, we currently work with six wood chipping partners. They all have modern chipping units mounted on trucks and special vehicles. A total of eight vehicles of various types are available. This means that we have all the technical capabilities we need to complete chipping jobs quickly.
The recycling companies deliver the waste wood to us shredded to the required quality.
The sawmill wood is either delivered or we pick it up. The form also varies: the wood comes to us raw, shredded, or chopped.
Wood logistics
With our Net-Logistik and WinforstPro32 computer systems, we can record all wood suppliers in our catchment area and coordinate their deliveries.
The wood is allocated according to ecological and economic criteria. We also continuously monitor the transport routes.
The wood and storage data is forwarded electronically to the wood processors and transporters. All invoicing is also carried out electronically using the credit note procedure.
Wood delivery
Thanks to our logistics partners, we can supply all existing silo filling designs. The modern vehicle fleet used for this purpose is constantly being renewed. Per delivery, we can drop, fill, or blow in between 20 SRm and 80 SRm of wood.
Our processing site in Rehhag guarantees a high level of supply security: with the wood reserves available there, we can supply our customers even in exceptional situations, such as difficult road conditions in winter.
Catchment area
We source the energy wood for our customers from the following regions:
- Bern
- Bernese Jura (Tavannes, Saint-Imier)
- Biel
- Burgdorf
- Fribourg
- Murten
- Solothurn
To ensure a good ecological balance, we keep transport distances as short as possible. The average transport distance for forest wood to the Forsthaus energy center's wood-fired power plant is 33 km. For the remaining plants, the procurement radius is a maximum of 10 km. The waste wood comes from the Bern area.
You can find the various locations of the wood-fired heating systems we supply here.
