Traditional Chinese Medicine
I understand traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as providing comprehensive support to the clients entrusted to us. Working with needles (acupuncture), hands (tuina), or herbs (phytotherapy) is only one part of the overall therapy. It is the last, but not always the most important, link in the entire process.
The process must begin with a consultation, during which the therapist takes their time. A genuine, empathetic, and non-judgmental (calm) interest in the client's problems plays at least as important a role as the precise analysis and treatment of the health disorder according to the criteria of TCM.
A therapist who only inserts needles, works manually, or prescribes medicinal formulas will usually miss the mark. Often, the reasons or connections behind a health disorder only become apparent during a detailed conversation. Depending on the problem, the time required for this can vary considerably.
During the course of the process, it is also important to continually review progress and changes and to incorporate current observations into subsequent treatments. Practical instructions and helpful tips can also contribute to healing or at least alleviating the symptoms.
In my experience, these are the most important and best prerequisites for successful therapy.
