After spending his childhood in the United States and France, Dr. Raffaele Grimaldi returned with his family to Italy, to his hometown of Rome, where he completed his medical studies.
He then passed the USMLE1) licensing exam and received the ECFMG2) certificate, which allows foreign graduates to train as specialists and then practice medicine in the US. He held talks with the US universities UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) and Ohio Clinical Foundation, but ultimately decided to remain in Europe for personal reasons.
Initially, his main interest was in hematology and cellular immunotherapy, particularly bone marrow transplantation. He had the opportunity to work first at the Royal Free Hospital in London (England) and then at the Hôpital Necker–Enfants malades in France.
Dr. Grimaldi obtained a diploma in cellular immunotherapy from René Descartes University in Paris.
In the second phase of his professional career, he turned to family medicine, focusing increasingly on the clinical possibilities for better coordinated communication between primary care and hospitals.
He completed his specialist training in England and France before practicing as a general practitioner in the counties of Kent and Essex.
As part of a pilot project to train general practitioners with specialist knowledge (GP with special interests), he took part in further training at both the PCT (Primary Care Trust) in Tendring and the departments of cognitive behavioral therapy and neurology at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
He then worked as a locum and permanent doctor in France, particularly in the Côte d'Azur/Alpes Maritimes department. He obtained an inter-university diploma in cognitive behavioral therapy from the University of Reims.
From 2014, he worked 50% of the time in hospitals in Switzerland (Bellelay, Meiringen, Thun Hospital) in the departments of psychiatry and psychogeriatrics, contributing his knowledge and experience in the fields of general medicine and psychotherapy. Since 2015, he has been working part-time as a general practitioner at the Baptista Health Center in La Chaux-de-Fonds and at the Mylife medical practice in Solothurn (Switzerland).
In 2019, he spent a year abroad at the Highfield Unit in Oxford in the Department of Child Psychiatry. At the same time, he continued his master's studies in experimental and translational medicine at the same university.
In 2020, as part of a collaboration between the Arud Center in Zurich and the Sorbonne University in Paris (France), he obtained a national diploma in gerontology under Prof. Belmin (thesis on emotional intelligence and cognitive neurology).
His professional and personal philosophy is based on the Italian Renaissance idea of the versatility of human beings, who immerse themselves in different fields of knowledge by building bridges between seemingly distant disciplines.
In his spare time, he composes music and writes songs in which he combines the existentialist poetry of the French poets Verlaine and Beaudelaire with progressive rock.
It is both a pleasure and an honor for him to work with the managing director of the König family and pediatric practice, Mr. Jonathan König, Prof. Dr. Rainer Galaske, pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist, and the staff. The Kinderkönig Institute was founded by pediatrician Dr. Stephan König, a great Renaissance man (humanist), poet, physician, and master of inner life.
He is proud to be able to offer the citizens of Brig the most modern and latest methods for the treatment and prevention of psychosomatic illnesses.
