Cabriole Montessori School
Cabriole Montessori is a private Montessori school located in Carouge, which welcomes children aged 3 to 6. The school is part of the Swiss Montessori Association.
The school consists of a single classroom, located on the third floor of the Carouge shopping center building. It is a large, bright space with a beautiful view of the surrounding rooftops and the Salève mountain.
1. Atmosphere
The atmosphere should be understood as the quality of the environment.
Since a child's education takes place through interaction with the environment, it is
it is very important that the atmosphere in which the child develops is organized in
logical and progressive way: in the classroom, the materials are classified by subject area (everyday life
practical, sensory, math, and language), has a place and a name, and is
and is designed and stored according to the needs, abilities, and size of the child.
In this way, each child will be able to organize the skills they have acquired. It
awakens their consciousness through movement and action. They take the world in hand after
having perceived it unconsciously.
2. Educational materials
The materials found in the environment were created by Maria Montessori. They are
scientific material because it is the result of observations, reflections, and deductions
made by Maria Montessori over a period of 50 years.
The materials enable children to conceptualize their learning by forming
mental images from their concrete experiences.
The materials are self-correcting, meaning that they reveal errors and children can correct themselves without
the need for adult intervention. In this way, children are the driving force behind their own development.
Each success reinforces the child and helps them develop a sense of self-confidence and
self-esteem.
There is only one set of materials per activity; they are arranged in a way that encourages
self-activity and free choice, as well as the freedom to use it for as long as necessary to
integrating knowledge. All these qualities promote the development of
social awareness in children and respect for others.
3. The role of the educator
The educator's presence should be felt as that of a helpful and friendly person
who views the child positively and is always attentive. They must maintain the child's interest and
awaken their potential. They must know how to wait, trust, and intervene with great
delicacy.
In addition, we emphasize the importance of enrolling your child for at least two years, or even for a full cycle:
as the multi-age group (3-6 years old) allows children to socialize and have role models
from younger to older children. The environment recreates a family-like and fraternal setting. Socialization takes place through their discussions and exchanges. They thus learn to cooperate, share, and get along well with others.
