Addiction and trauma

Neglect, mistreatment, or abuse in childhood and adolescence often pave the way for the development of addiction later in life. Low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, unbearable inner tension, and stressful memories are made bearable with the help of substances. This type of self-medication quickly leads to dependence with serious negative consequences. When patients recognize these connections, it is often a relief for them.

Addiction therapy

 The Gontenschwil inpatient therapy program offers various trauma-specific procedures that build on these findings and treat both addiction and trauma. In addition to Lisa Najavits' Finding Safety program and stabilizing imagery techniques, various exposure procedures such as EMDR, narrative exposure therapy, and somatic experience are also used.
Depending on the severity, comorbidity, and complexity of the disorder, we offer classic long-term therapy, which can last between 8 and 24 weeks. Short-term therapy lasts for 8 weeks. If necessary, therapy can be continued at the Lenzburg Outpatient Clinic or the Lenzburg Day Clinic.
