The HEMU – Haute École de Musique is an educational institution renowned for its elite, demanding, and comprehensive training, as well as for its close ties with the professional world and its commitment to musical life. Multidisciplinary and multi-style, it covers all areas of training in classical music, jazz, and contemporary music.
Located in the heart of Europe and French-speaking Switzerland, where it welcomes more than 500 students of 39 different nationalities, the HEMU offers university-level education. Valuing both theory and practice, its Bachelor's and Master's degree programs are designed to ensure immediate access to the professional world. Its teaching staff, composed of many internationally renowned artists, guarantees its students a high level of supervision.
The HEMU offers numerous workshops, ensemble activities, internships, and concerts. Each year, it produces more than 300 public performances. Its appeal is also measured by the masterclasses given by prestigious musicians and by its partnerships with internationally recognized institutions, which, in addition to providing students with rewarding formative experiences, enable them to build a network.
Its Bachelor's and Master's degrees are accredited by the Swiss Confederation and recognized internationally. Since 2009, the HEMU has been part of the "Music and Performing Arts" department of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO), the largest network of higher professional education in Switzerland with 19,400 students.
The HEMU - Fribourg-Freiburg consists of four buildings that are shared with the Fribourg Conservatory. Located in one of the cities with the most beautiful medieval architecture in Europe, this site welcomes students who are pursuing Master's degrees in Wind Ensemble Conducting,nbsp;as well as Bachelor's and Master's degrees in all disciplines of brass, voice, school music education (MUSEC), piano, and organ.
