Gruyères in French, Greyerz in German, is one of the most typical towns in French-speaking Switzerland. Calling all lovers of geraniums, accordions and... cheese, of course! It is a pleasant place to live, developing harmoniously.
This small town at the gateway to the Alps gave its name to the famous cheese that originated in its mountains. In a picturesque setting at an altitude of 830 m, it nestles at the foot of the Moléson (2002 m), the Dent de Broc (1830 m) and the Dent du Chamois (1340 m).
Gruyères is actually made up of four distinct parts: the old town perched on a hill and, lower down in the plain, the villages of Epagny, Pringy, and the resort of Moléson-Village, which rises to an altitude of 1,130 meters. The municipality currently has 2,350 inhabitants.
The old fortified town of Gruyères is a gem. Closed to cars, pedestrians from all over the world stroll along its famous cobbled main street, lined with remarkable houses displaying proud heraldic cranes, the symbols of the town.
