Farner Gartenbau was founded in 1987 as a sole proprietorship by Martin Farner-Schmid from Oberstammheim in Guntalingen, Zurich. Together with his wife Gabriela Farner-Schmid, father-in-law Fritz Schmid, and brother-in-law Thomas Schmid, he began building a flexible small business with skilled, long-term employees and modern, functional machinery.

In 2003, the company was converted into Farner Gartenbau AG, with Martin Farner remaining as managing director. His partners are Gabriela Farner-Schmid and Thomas Schmid, who have been actively involved in the business since its foundation in 1987.
