About us

Since 1917:

 

• Our nursery has been located at Flugplatzstrasse 40 for almost 100 years.
• Alfred Maurer started out growing lots of vegetables and a few flowers, which were sold at the Bern weekly market until around 1955.
• Over time, the focus shifted increasingly to flowers.
• Fritz Maurer, the second generation, founded the "Berner Blumenbörse" (Bern Flower Exchange) together with several other Bernese gardeners, thus laying the foundation for the commercial distribution of locally                  flowers and plants in the Bern region.
• The first two greenhouses were built in our nursery in 1958, with two more added later.
• Our flower shop opened in 1971 and has been run by Christine Maurer-Brosi ever since.
• In 1990, shortly after Christine and Peter Maurer took over, the old "sären und couchen" (greenhouses) were demolished and a new, modern triple greenhouse was built, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, practical rolling tables, and a bright workspace.
• In 2013, the sole proprietorship was converted into a corporation, today's "Blumen Maurer AG."

Today:

• the nursery is now run by the third generation of the family , Christine and Peter Maurer-Brosi .
• Andres Maurer, the fourth generation, supports the "boss" in the nursery as master gardener and sales manager.
• Simone Mack-Maurer is currently completing a floristry training course at "Marianne Wyss - Naturgestaltung" in Zurich and actively supports the flower shop.
