HOTEL

Built in 1960 and currently run by the Bontognali family, the Albergo Cambrena at the Ospizio Bernina has always been a popular mountain refuge for tourists and hikers, workers crossing the pass for work, and those who find themselves in difficulty facing the Bernina on days of snow, storms, and fog.

Welcoming and understated, it is open all year round, offering simple, authentic cuisine, comfortable rooms, and breathtaking scenery!

ROOMS & PRICES

The rooms are comfortable, the furnishings simple, and the brightness and splendid view of the surrounding mountains transform your stay into a moment of welcome relaxation. The Cambrena has six rooms: four doubles, one triple, and one quadruple, four of which have a shower and toilet. The bathrooms for the other rooms are located on the same floor. All rooms have a TV and free WiFi.

During the summer, it is a pleasure to enjoy breakfast on the terrace: the fresh air, the beautiful view, and the authenticity of the products served allow you to start the day with joy and good humor!

 

RESTAURANT

Local customers, passers-by, and tourists enjoy visiting the Cambrena Restaurant, located at the top of the Bernina Pass at an altitude of 2300 meters, open from 5:30 a.m. until late in the evening. In this welcoming inn, the warmth of the stove, the soft chatter of the patrons, and the friendliness of the manager create a peaceful and cozy atmosphere.

On the walls, old black and white photos depict snow-capped mountains and the winter transit of men and pack animals. One wall-sized photo is particularly striking: it depicts a caravan of sleds gliding over the snow, pulled by horses carrying heavy loads of Valtellina wine to be transported to Engadine. It tells the story of the enterprising and courageous Valposchiavo coachmen.

LOCAL CUISINE

At the Cambrena Restaurant, you can enjoy local dishes and specialties: capunet, polenta and mushrooms, pizzoccheri, game, cold cuts, cheeses produced in the valley, and homemade cakes.

The cozy and intimate atmosphere invites you to enjoy a good fondue in company, perhaps after a long day of skiing, a challenging hike, or a group hunting trip.

 

GLACIER TERRACE

From the Glacier Terrace of the Cambrena Hotel and Restaurant, you can enjoy an enchanting view of the charming open spaces.

Admire the Cambrena Glacier, which gives the hotel its name, Piz Arlas further north, Sasa Quadra and a glimpse of Lago Bianco (White Lake), so called because of the light color of its waters, along which you can walk to reach the Sassal Masone mountain, or Alp Grüm, Palü and Cavaglia.

 

ABOVE THE "FOUR THOUSAND"

The Bernina group is the highest in the central Alps and the only one to exceed 4,000 m in altitude. Generations of mountaineers have tackled its mountains in incredible feats!

The Albergo Cambrena is the starting point for comfortable and enjoyable medium and high mountain excursions or for challenging climbs.
