Company history
In the 1970s, Raymond Jubin, originally from the Jura region, bought and sold companies. He acquired one that was then active in the wood and coal industry. At that time, most homes were heated using these two materials. However, oil was gradually appearing on the market. Raymond's sons, Denis and Jean-Claude, decided to focus on this energy source. They decided to keep the recently purchased business and, in 1973, Jubin Frères SA was born, with its headquarters in Porrentruy, in the canton of Jura. The two sons used a truck to transport wood and coal. They later installed a 6,000-liter tank in order to make their first deliveries of fuel oil and diesel.
Working exclusively in the sale of petroleum products until the second half of the 1990s, when it gradually began to abandon wood and coal, the company then sought to expand its activities. It decided to diversify into fuels. It was at this point that the first service station was built in Courgenay in 1996, the first of many, as over the years Jubin Frères took advantage of the abandonment of small stations by the major oil companies to create its own network. The development of this network began in the Jura region before spreading throughout French-speaking Switzerland. In 2020, the family business is one of the largest distributors in the country. In addition, the company offers its own "Jubin Card," which is valid at all Jubin stations. This card is a real bonus for customers because of the benefits it offers. The number of new customers for this service is steadily increasing.
The portfolio of activities expanded further in 2018. Jubin Frères took over the operation of several shops that were already part of the network but had previously been privately owned. The company is now also focusing on developing its points of sale with the aim of offering attractive services and goods to its customers.
The company's original business, the sale and delivery of petroleum products, is still very much alive. Despite restrictions on fossil fuels and the gradual removal of facilities in most Swiss cantons, particularly in the Jura, the company has continued to grow. Historically, the first deliveries were made within the canton of Jura and then expanded to the Bernese Jura. However, in recent years, Jubin Frères has been using carriers to transport goods on its behalf. This working method has given the company the opportunity to supply private individuals throughout French-speaking Switzerland. As a result, the list of new customers is growing every year. From businesses to private individuals, the customer base is rich and varied.
Following the development of its activities, the number of employees has increased significantly since 2010, leading to the construction of a new administrative building a few meters from the old one. At the end of 2018, the twenty or so employees moved to their new workplace.
