Rapperswil (520 m above sea level), located on a fertile plateau between Seeland and Unteremmental, is a sprawling, rather complex municipality comprising the villages of Bangerten, Bittwil, Dieterswil, Frauchwil, Lätti, Moosaffoltern, Rapperswil, Ruppoldsried, Seewil, Vogelsang, Wierezwil, and Zimlisberg.
Rapperswil borders the canton of Solothurn and the municipalities of Deisswil, Grossaffoltern, Iffwil, Messen, Münchenbuchsee, Jegenstorf, Schnottwil, Schüpfen, Wengi, and Zuzwil.
