Building for the future.
Founded in 1934 as his grandfather's office, the company is characterized by quality and sustainability. Due to its history, it stands for industrial and commercial buildings and the renovation of old buildings. With a view to the future,
s+p is looking to the future with the construction of multi-family homes and energy-efficient renovations.
Through various acquisitions, s+p has continued to grow and develop. Today, under the leadership of Britta Schmid, a team of architects, construction managers, draftsmen, and apprentices work on numerous projects in the Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein areas and beyond.
Anchored in Schaffhausen
Its location on the Rhine made Schaffhausen a predestined location for industry from an early stage. The construction of the Moser Dam in 1866 further boosted this development. More and more companies settled in the Munot city. The flourishing industry needed suitable buildings at that time and in the years that followed, which also benefited the construction industry. Ernst Schmid was one of the architects who designed numerous impressive buildings for large industrial companies in Schaffhausen. Various buildings designed later by the Schmid family, father and son, are still in use today and have become part of the cityscape.
Across three generations
In 1934, Ernst Schmid, grandfather of the current company owner, founded the architectural firm Schmid Architekten SIA. After his retirement, his son, Peter Ernst Schmid, took over the reins. As an alternative to general contractors and together with five other architectural firms, Peter Ernst Schmid founded Planag in 1973. In 1995, he bought it together with his colleague Hans Bossi. When Bossi went independent four years later, ownership passed to P.E. Schmid.
In 1999, the new company name s+p Schmid Partner AG appeared in the commercial register. Nine years later, Britta Schmid followed in the footsteps of Peter Ernst Schmid and, as a graduate civil engineer ETH SIA MBA, took over the architectural firm in its third generation, becoming its sole owner two years later.
The Stein am Rhein location was strengthened with the acquisition of the assets of the Turi Weiss GmbH office (2011), including all archive documents, office inventory, and external employees, and BA4 Architektur GmbH (2015).
