Water supply in figures

Several water supply cooperatives are responsible for supplying water in the municipality of Sigriswil. By far the largest supplier is the Sigriswil municipal water supply, which supplies 10 of the 11 villages in the municipality. In addition to the public water supply, there are two smaller suppliers, but each of these only supplies a small group of houses. There is also the Justistal Alpine Water Supply Cooperative in the municipality.

The Sigriswil municipal water supply provides water to around 4,300 of the approximately 4,800 residents of the municipality of Sigriswil. To do this, we need a public pipe network of around 75 km, 15 reservoirs, and 7 pumping stations. We have a total of 19 different pressure zones. The more than 1,700 connected properties are supplied by over 51 km of house connection pipes. We currently provide fire protection with 419 hydrants.

In Switzerland, 29% of water comes from springs, 44% from groundwater, and 27% from lakes. In Sigriswil, however, most of the water (97%) comes from springs and only 3% from groundwater.

In addition to supplying drinking and firefighting water, we also produce a considerable amount of electricity. Our two turbines generate a total of almost 500,000 kWh of energy per year.

The entire water supply system has a replacement value of over CHF 55 million.
