Celtor SA

The history of Celtor, an acronym for Centre d’ELimination et de Traitement des ORdures(Waste Disposal and Treatment Center), began in 1977 on the initiative of several municipalities. In forty years, the little house with geranium-lined windows has been transformed into a successful company, serving the population in its area of activity, while strengthening the values of proximity and availability that today make its reputation.

From the simple idea of entrusting waste management to an external organization, Celtor's mandate has evolved to become a public limited company specializing in the collection, treatment, recovery, and storage of waste. Today, Celtor is a public limited company comprising twenty-five municipalities in the Bernese Jura and two municipalities in the Jura. It operates an 80,000 m² site and employs 17 people to process an ever-increasing volume of waste.

• In response to a request from the Department of Water and Energy in Bern, ADOR (Association pour l'aménagement et la défense de l'Orval) studied the creation of a controlled landfill site for municipalities located within a 20-kilometer radius of Tavannes, with the exception of the municipalities of Vallon de Saint-Imier. The Ronde-Sagne site, located on land belonging to the municipalities of Tavannes and Reconvilier, quickly proved to be the most suitable location.

An initial survey list identified 32 municipalities interested in the project.
