Every day – and around the clock in emergencies!

Nursing services are available to all residents of the canton of Bern who have a medically certified need. The services are provided on the basis of a written assessment of needs. Where necessary, they supplement and support the nursing services provided by relatives.

SPITEX services are available in particular for:

• People who are ill, disabled, have had an accident, are convalescing, elderly, or dying.
• People who are in a physical, psychological, and/or social crisis or risk situation.
• Women before or after the birth of a child.
• Families, relatives, and other caregivers.

Assessment of needs and counseling

We assess care and support needs on site. We provide advice on coping with everyday life, dealing with illness or disability, and promoting and maintaining health. We guide you or your relatives in performing care tasks or put you in touch with other helpful services.
We ensure that the needs assessment is signed by the attending physician and forwarded to the health insurance company. In the event of increased care needs (60 hours or more per quarter), we request the necessary additional certificate from the attending physician.

Basic care

Help with getting up and going to bed, dressing and undressing, putting on support stockings, mobilization, personal hygiene, bathing, showering, maintaining mobility and good skin condition, etc.

Treatment

• Measuring blood pressure, blood sugar
• Care of probes and catheters
• Preparing and administering medication, e.g. also by injection
• Preparing and administering nutritional solutions
• Administration and monitoring of infusions
• Rinsing, cleaning, and caring for wounds
• Nursing measures for bladder and bowel dysfunction
• Medicinal baths, wraps, and packs

24-hour emergency service

We provide our services seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Outside these hours, you can reach us at any time in the event of a nursing emergency, and we will be on site within an hour.

You can also make use of SPITEX care if you are only staying temporarily in the SPITEX Grauholz area, for example while visiting relatives. Please note the following information if you live outside the canton of Bern.
