General information on guidelines, responsibility, inspection cycle

To ensure that oil, wood, and gas combustion systems operate safely and reliably at all times, the Zurich Cantonal Building Insurance (GVZ) requires regular inspections and cleaning by a licensed chimney sweep.

Clean and economical combustion systems make a significant contribution to air pollution control and thus to the preservation of our health. For this reason, the Air Pollution Control Ordinance (LRV) requires regular inspections of oil, gas, and wood-fired heating systems. In addition, a well-maintained system can result in significant savings in heating costs.

Homeowners can choose their own chimney sweep. They are responsible for organizing these mandatory inspections and maintenance themselves.
