OUR ENTITIES:
The public slaughterhouse built in Clarens was commissioned in 1911. It underwent renovations in 1971, 1995, and 2002.
The latest renovations in 2002 significantly expanded the facility. The slaughterhouse is now equipped with facilities that meet modern technological standards and European requirements, and is ISO 22000 certified.
SIGE Technical Center for Water Services
In order to ensure the distribution of drinking water and the necessary reserves for firefighting, SIGE operates around thirty springs that are tapped through more than three kilometers of galleries. The annual volume of water collected from the springs is approximately 8.5 million m³. The water pumped from Lake Geneva represents an average of 1.5 million m³ per year.
In order to ensure sufficient pressure and permanent availability to users, SIGE has 32 reservoirs with a total capacity of approximately 35,000 m³. Nineteen pumping stations supply some of these reservoirs. Finally, 359 km of pipes are used to transport the water to users.
SIGE Technical Center for Sanitation
Residents are connected to municipal networks that discharge into SIGE collectors before reaching one of the region's three wastewater treatment plants. In order to treat nearly 13 million m³ of wastewater annually, SIGE has three wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) between Vevey and Roche. The WWTPs use mechanical, physical, and biological treatment to remove most of the macropollutants contained in the wastewater.
The residues generated by the physical and biological treatments, known as sewage sludge, are then transported to the sludge treatment plant in Roche. The sludge is digested and then dehydrated by centrifugation. This process reduces the volume of the remaining sludge, which is then incinerated at the SATOM site in Monthey.
Finally, it should be noted that sludge treatment will enable the production of biogas, from which methane will be extracted and ultimately injected into the natural gas network.
