Pediatric neuropsychology

Neuropsychology is a branch of psychology that overlaps with neuroscience. Neuropsychology deals with the functions and performance of the brain (technical term: cognition), including general thinking ability/intelligence, attention, memory, language, and perception, as well as behavioral control, mental working speed, and emotions.

A neuropsychological assessment (also known as neuropsychological diagnostics or test diagnostics) serves to examine brain performance and possible disorders. The causes of cognitive impairment can be congenital or acquired, e.g., due to a congenital brain dysfunction, an illness, or an accident resulting in brain injury.

Neuropsychological testing procedures and methods are used based on the latest findings in brain research. A detailed neuropsychological assessment usually takes several hours.
