The Kunsthaus Zug: A place for contemporary and modern art.
Internationally renowned collection featuring works of Viennese Modernism (Klimt, Hoffmann, Schiele, Kokoschka, and many others), Swiss Surrealism, and Fantastic Art, as well as artworks related to the region.Due to limited space, the diverse collection is not on permanent display and is presented in four to five thematic temporary exhibitions with specific inclusion of public space.
With "Projekt Sammlung" (Project Collection), a collection model of contemporary art has been developed that is probably unique worldwide and turns the museum into a laboratory. Site-specific interventions are created in collaboration with international artists (Eliasson, Kabakov, Kawamata, Pepperstein, Rütimann, Signer, Tuttle) over a period of several years.
Since 2002, "Kunsthaus Zug mobil" has been on the road, a transportable exhibition space in the form of a special container for site-specific projects. A traveling museum that shows exhibitions of contemporary art in a very small space.
Brief description
The Kunsthaus Zug has several thematic collections ranging from classical modernism to contemporary art, including art from the region. It has the most important collection of Viennese Modernism in Europe outside Austria, with works by Klimt, Gerstl, Hoffmann, Kokoschka, Schiele, Wotruba, and others. Due to limited space, the diverse collection is not on permanent display and is presented in thematic temporary exhibitions. Three to four projects per year are dedicated to contemporary and 20th-century art, with a specific focus on public space.
With "Projekt Sammlung" (Project Collection), a collection model for contemporary art has been developed that is probably unique worldwide and turns the museum into a laboratory. Site-specific interventions are created in collaboration with international artists (Eliasson, Huws, Kabakov, Kawamata, Pepperstein, Rütimann, Signer, Tuttle) over a period of several years. "Project Collection" allows the audience to follow artistic processes from their conception to their realization.
