May 31, 2019 | Anonymous userThe production of pipes began in the Appenzell region in the post-war years. Under the supervision of a "pipe maker," the factory mainly employed residents of the local nursing home. Around 30 pipes were produced per day. While the smaller pipes could be manufactured by machine, the larger ones had to be shaped by hand. Until the early 1970s, operations were maintained on the site shown in the picture (now the indoor swimming pool).
Production was then discontinued and the site moved to the sewage treatment plant in Bödeli, Appenzell. Until 2002, the canton only carried out trade there and no longer engaged in manufacturing.
In September 2002, Röhrenhandel Appenzell AG was converted into a public limited company and moved to its new location at Weissbadstrasse 58.
With the takeover, other civil engineering products were also distributed in the regional area and continuously adapted to demand.
In September 2008, the "Rothus" property at Weissbadstrasse 52 was purchased. This created additional storage capacity of 3000m2. This enabled further product expansion in the civil engineering materials sector, as well as the establishment of a complete store for the sale of craftsmen's supplies. A second specialist was hired.
2011 - The purchase of a truck with a crane enables the company to offer additional services in the area of various types of external transport and construction site deliveries.
2012 - The pipe business employs three full-time and one part-time staff. Due to high demand, a new truck (Volvo 500) with a longer range is purchased.
