Further information on cleaning with dry ice:

Dry ice consists of frozen CO2, which has a temperature of approximately -79°C. Dry ice blasting utilizes the following physical properties: different material properties at different temperatures, gas expansion of dry ice upon impact, and the hardness of the blasting agent at different compressed air flow rates.

The hardness of dry ice is around 2 mol (corresponds to the hardness of plaster). Compressed air acceleration increases the hardness of dry ice by a factor of 2 to 3. The smaller the angle to the object being cleaned, the more dry ice is brought between the dirt and the object, thereby blasting the dirt away.
