Tan SA

Tan SA is a family-owned company founded in 1984, but the Romualdi family has been active in the watchmaking industry for over 50 years, dating back to the 1950s. In the 1960s, a dial manufacturing facility was added, which was later sold in the late 1980s. The business has always been based on the production of complete watches under private label, starting with the development and assembly of various mechanical movements—both manual-winding and automatic—on semi-automatic assembly lines, followed by the installation of dials and hands, casing, quality control, and so on.

The advent of the quartz era led to the decision not to install assembly lines for this type of movement, preferring instead to purchase them fully assembled directly from various specialized manufacturers.

It was during that period, specifically in 1978, that his son, Enrico, having completed his studies in Chemistry, began working at the company. He directly observed and practiced every step involved in the assembly of movements and watches. To further his knowledge of both mechanical and quartz watchmaking techniques, he spent a significant amount of time at several factories of ETA, the leading Swiss movement manufacturer, whose support also enabled him to undergo an additional three-month training period in New York. Enrico also spent several weeks in Japan, where he had the opportunity to enhance his skills and expand his knowledge at Seiko factories.

In 1984, the family decided to relocate all operations to Switzerland, which, among other benefits, allowed them to offer customers Swiss-made watches. Service was improved and strengthened to meet the increasingly high technical and aesthetic standards demanded by customers.
