JUDO was created by Professor Jigoro Kano (1860/1938 – a cultured man, graduate of Japan's first university, director of the Tokyo Normal School for twenty years, first Asian representative on the International Olympic Committee, and a great educator).
With such origins, JUDO could not be limited to being just a sport.
It is a sport in every sense (having been the first martial art recognized as an Olympic sport in 1964), but it is also – and above all – an educational method.
JUDO teaches us to endure and strive to achieve a goal, demands respect for teammates and opponents, and emphasizes the importance of values such as honor, modesty, self-control, sincerity, courage, and education.
At DYK Chiasso, a sports association founded in 1974 and active in our region for over forty years, we have not lost sight of the primary objective of JUDO.
However, this goal is achieved by competing with others and putting oneself to the test. This is why we continue to believe in competitive JUDO and to promote all aspects of the discipline.
I invite anyone interested to visit the dojo at Via Cattaneo 10 in Chiasso; our center always offers the opportunity to take two free trial lessons. Fortunately, in the jumble of martial arts on offer today, there is still something serious, traditional, and constructive. Come and visit us and try it for yourself!
Thank you, Jigoro Kano, and thank you to everyone who attends our beautiful dojo!
