The Château
The known history of the château dates back to the year 1003. It was a fortified house surrounded by a moat with two drawbridges, four square towers, and a keep. Built on Burgundian ruins, which themselves had been built on Roman remains, the château burned down around the year 1600. Taking advantage of the peace and security, part of the fortifications were used to enlarge the living quarters. The castle as it stands today has changed very little since 1600.
Having belonged to the Counts of Savoy, as well as to several other families, it passed into Bernese hands for eight generations to the Tavel family, then by marriage, in 1796, to the Buren family.
My sons, Felix and Yuri de Buren, represent the seventh generation to live in the castle.
