Maurer Spezialitäten

Ernst Maurer produces bacon and smoked ham with his company Maurer Spezialitäten and has been supplying Migros cooperatives with his exclusive premium products for almost 50 years from his Solothurn exclave in the middle of the canton of Baselland. The pork that Ernst Maurer salts and smokes in the traditional way over several weeks using the best ingredients comes exclusively from the region. The Maurer bacon is then produced by hand and salted with the company's own spice mixture. While his wife Sylvia takes care of the bookkeeping, Ernst Maurer and his employee produce up to one ton of bacon per day. The family business has received several awards in recent years, including the rare "Prize of the Best" from the German Agricultural Society (DLG). As part of a succession plan, Maurer Spezialitäten was transferred to the charcuterie division of Micarna SA in 2015 and is now a member of the Micarna Group.
