Baur Foundation, Museum of Far Eastern Art
The Baur Foundation's collections, comprising nearly 9,000 art objects from China and Japan, are housed in an elegant late 19th-century mansion.
Swiss collector Alfred Baur (1865-1951) amassed a remarkable collection of imperial ceramics, jades, and Chinese snuff bottles, as well as Japanese art objects including ceramics, lacquerware, prints, netsuke, and sword ornaments.
Since 1995, the museum has been enriched by several donations, notably of ancient Chinese lacquerware and Chinese export ceramics, as well as a large collection of items used in Japanese tea ceremonies. In September 2017, a new donation room was opened to display these items to the public on a rotating basis.
These collections are the most important in Switzerland open to the public in the field of the Far East.
Temporary exhibitions are organized several times a year.

女 Chinese Women : April 16 to July 20, 2025
The exhibition 女 Chinese Women follows the lives of women through Chinese
culture, from their representation in ceramics, painting, and photography, to
the symbolic motifs associated with them in the decorative arts, as well as
their clothing and distinctive accessories. Marriage, marital harmony, and
the desire for numerous male offspring have given rise to a rich iconographic
repertoire that the exhibition aims to explore through the presentation of
a splendid carved wooden wedding bed, a variety of textiles, as well as
narrative scenes painted on porcelain. The place of women in spirituality, be
it the female deities present in the Taoist and Buddhist pantheons or popular
rites linked to childbirth, is addressed through bronze sculpture, prints, and
porcelain. The last section of the exhibition is devoted to women artists and
presents a selection of paintings from the Ming period (1368-1644) to the
present day, with an exceptional work by the artist Peng Wei (b. 1974).

Ji-Young Demol Park, Lee Lee Nam
Au lendemain des célébrations du 60e anniversaire des relations diplomatiques entre la Suisse et la Corée du sud, cette exposition propose une plongée inédite à la rencontre de deux artistes coréens contemporains, Ji-Young Demol Park et Lee Lee Nam.
Parmi un florilège d’œuvres anciennes du musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet et de la Fondation Baur, leurs paysages se déploient à travers les liens séculaires tissés entre cultures et objets, matières, teintes et motifs. Céladons couleur de jade et de pin, lignes d’horizon bleuies à l’oxyde de cobalt, porcelaines aux revêtements blanc de neige ou de lune font ainsi écho au travail des deux créateurs dont les regards se croisent et se retrouvent dans les montagnes du grand peintre Jeong Seon (1676-1759). Nombreux sont ceux qui marchent sur les pas du célèbre artiste de la période Joseon (1392-1910) et qui se reconnaissent en lui.
