THE STORY

It all began with Pascal Sonderegger and his enthusiasm for Italy. One day, he had the opportunity to put this enthusiasm into practice in a time-honored establishment: the Chartreuse. In August 2015, the Sonderegger family purchased the building and Pascal Sonderegger took over the business together with Karin Villiger.

The Chartreuse closed its doors, new ideas emerged, and the old walls underwent a gentle renovation. The Indian slate floor remained, as did the old fir wood paneling and the spacious layout.

New additions included travertine stone, clay from Italy, and a large wine cellar – Italianità found its way into the traditional house. Anyone who enters the Chartreuse today therefore feels a little bit like they are in Tuscany – or simply at home in the Chartreuse Osteria da Pasquale.

Our cuisine

In our restaurant, we enchant your senses. The scents of fresh herbs, garlic, and delicate roasted aromas – at the Chartreuse, you are welcomed by the best ambassadors of Italy.

Let yourself be surprised by authentic delicacies from the regions of Italy. How about wafer-thin Prosciutto di Parma, freshly sliced on our 1918 "Berkel"? Followed by a symphony of antipasti, primi, secondi, and dolci: your palate is in for a treat, as all dishes are prepared by Giacomo, Giulia, and Davide according to Italian culinary art.
We are also happy to cater to the needs of vegetarians and allergy sufferers.

La Cantina – immerse yourself in our wine cellar

Immerse yourself in the world of Italian wines. Here you will find rare gems and fine wines. But our hearts also beat for small family-owned wineries whose excellent wines are just waiting to be discovered.

We are happy to let you browse our wine selection on your own, but we are also available to advise you personally. In the end, you are sure to find a wonderful wine: whether fruity and full-bodied, elegant and subtle, or complex and spicy.

Our rooms

At the Chartreuse, your time is entirely your own: enjoy the sunshine when you wake up, gaze out at the greenery or the mountains. Start the day with a hearty breakfast and a coffee that you would otherwise only find in Italy. We make sure you have a peaceful stay, whether you are spending your vacation on Lake Thun, taking a short trip, or on a business trip.

All rooms were completely renovated in 2019 and furnished with attention to detail. Amenities include TV, free Wi-Fi, hairdryer, shower, and safe.
