Hayoz A. Holzbau AG in Kleingurmels is a prime example of a medium-sized timber construction company. In 1948, Alois Hayoz took over his father's company, which was then still located in the old cheese dairy in Gurmels.

By 1950, carpentry work had already begun and the first employees had been hired. In 1957, a sawmill and a carpentry workshop were added to the business. The company moved into its new premises in Kleingurmels, covering an area of 25,000 m², in 1966.

Since 1977, the company has been a family-owned corporation, now in its third generation, and currently employs 32 people.

Building with wood

After appropriate preparation, the modular construction method allows for millimeter-precise assembly on the substructure within a few days.

The time savings result in a short construction period of just 4-5 months, which has a positive effect on construction interest.

The thermal insulation properties of timber element construction allow for a wall thickness of 26 cm with a target U-value of 0.19 (Minergie).

The floor space gained as a result can be used to reduce the external dimensions, which in turn helps to save construction costs.

Stringer stairs

The various straight or spiral stringboard stairs are characterized by their simple design. The stringboards border the stairs on both sides. The railing is attached directly to the stringboards. The space between the stringboard and the handrail can be filled with various materials (glass, chrome steel, steel cables, wood) and manufactured in different variations.

Folded staircases

The folded staircase is characterized by a very modern and impressive design. This is achieved by a seemingly seamless connection between the tread and riser. It appears as if this staircase were folded directly from the wood, hence the name folded staircase.

Stringer stairs

Instead of stringers, these stairs are supported by rails. The treads are placed on the rails, giving this type of staircase its characteristic appearance. The railing is attached directly to the treads and can be designed in various ways.

Cantilevered stairs

In this type of staircase, the steps are suspended from the handrail by means of balusters. This gives the impression that they are floating. The cantilevered staircase does not require side stringers. The handrail takes on the load-bearing function and must be dimensioned accordingly. The steps are thus shown to their best advantage and can be manufactured in any curved or straight shape.
