Brülisauer Käse AG

The village of Künten, located between the two idyllic towns of Bremgarten and Mellingen on the Reuss River, is home to the last traditional cheese dairy in the canton of Aargau.

When the Künten cheese cooperative was looking for a cheesemaker in 1985, Sepp Brülisauer from Rossrüti in St. Gallen took over the cheese dairy despite the difficult circumstances at the time. The state prescribed which types of cheese were to be produced. Cheese dairies were not allowed to develop their own varieties.

Sepp Brülisauer did so anyway, because he was convinced that consumers wanted regional cheese and that developing their own varieties would lead to greater success. Ultimately, this proved to be the recipe for success for the cheese dairy in Künten. When the Swiss cheese market was finally liberalized in 1995, it already had a head start over other cheese dairies.

In the years that followed, Sepp Brülisauer and his wife Sibylle turned what was once a small Tilisiter cheese dairy into a modern cheese business. They repeatedly invested in modern infrastructure and continuously expanded the cheese warehouse.

Over the years, 25 specialties were developed and produced, including real bestsellers such as "Urchrüter." Sepp's specialties enriched the Swiss cheese range with many a delicacy.

In April 2020, after 35 wonderful and intense years, the business was handed over to a younger generation. In Fabian Spielhofer, Sepp and Sibylle Brülisauer have found a committed and competent successor who will continue to pursue their business philosophy and high quality standards.
