Safety standards to be observed
European standard EN 13241-1 regulates the installation of gates and garage doors with automatic opening systems in private properties. This standard, which is more stringent than the previous French standard NF 25-362, requires gate manufacturers to guarantee results and also requires regular maintenance in private homes.
According to this European standard, all materials used for the installation of an automatic system must bear the CE mark. Only this mark can guarantee that these materials comply with the European standard. During installation, tests must still be carried out by professionals to verify that there is no risk of shearing, crushing, jamming, or pinching in the system. In this case, the professional will carry out the tests using specialized and certified tools.
The results of these tests may subsequently require the gate owners to install photoelectric cells integrated into the gate. This has the effect of signaling any object or individual that may obstruct the movement of the gate when it opens or closes. A warning light may then be necessary to signal the movement of the gate to the public, particularly for automatic gates giving access to a busy street.
The owner of a house with an automatic gate must have documents certifying that the gate is in good working order, signed by a recognized authority. This document must include, among other things: an EC certificate, a test certificate, and a maintenance log.
The various safety accessories that a gate must have
If they are not purchased with the gate, you can obtain these accessories from suppliers who can then guarantee optimal safety for the daily use of your automatic opening gate system.
These accessories are:
– a mirror to facilitate maneuvering, especially at night.
– Photoelectric cells installed opposite each other to ensure that no object or person obstructs the opening or closing of the gate.
– a lighting system around the gate when it opens or closes.
– a flashing light to warn the public when the gate is opening or closing.
– A backup battery to ensure the gate continues to operate in the event of a power failure.
– An external unlocking system if manual opening does not work properly.
