Systemic-relational therapy
The Engel & Wächter practice has a strong theoretical focus on systemic-relational therapy. This means that when dealing with situations for which help is sought, the relational context in which they occur is always highlighted, often involving the people who are part of that context as an active part of the therapy. The family is understood as an open system that functions in relation to its socio-cultural context and evolves during the life cycle, influencing it and being influenced by it. The "family system" has great therapeutic potential and for this reason is always taken into serious consideration, not only in the analysis aimed at better understanding its dynamics and how they may be linked to the reported distress, but also and above all during therapy as an important factor for change.
Although the professional approach is therefore moving in this direction, this does not mean that the therapies carried out are always family therapies. Given the possibility of working with various forms of psychotherapy (individual, couple, and family), the therapist evaluates the most suitable solution for the patient and their history on a case-by-case basis.
