The Sapwood
In the heart of Neuchâtel's old town and pedestrian zone, you'll find an organic café-hotel with a lovely terrace and nine rooms...
Whether you are a regular visitor to the city or just passing through, whether you have five minutes for a coffee or a little more time for a light meal, let yourself be charmed by the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of our Café!
Opened in 2001 on one of the prettiest squares in the old town, our café is housed in a magnificent building and extends over two floors, with a balcony overlooking the Banneret fountain.
Here you will find... delicious coffee roasted on site and the smell of croissants in the morning. Delicious salads, fougasses with melted cheese, open sandwiches, and soups at lunchtime. Homemade cakes and ice cream in the afternoon...
In winter, you can enjoy a hot syrup, and in summer, the glass wall opens onto the square, allowing you to enjoy a homemade frappé while experiencing a charming corner of the old town.
Our dynamic team is already looking forward to welcoming you!
PS: As everywhere at L'AUBIER, everything is organic, of course!
If you fancy a city break, our Café-Hotel, located on one of the prettiest squares in the old town, is just what you need!
Our nine rooms are located on the four floors above the café. Simple and charming, they welcome you to the heart of the old town for one or more nights. Each room has its own style, bright and colorful. Three rooms are equipped with a small bathroom with shower. The others have a sink; toilets and showers are located on each floor.
The Café team is available to welcome you until 7:00 p.m. On Saturdays until 6:00 p.m. We would be grateful if you could plan your arrival during the Café's opening hours.
Every Monday morning, the coffee beans are carefully roasted on site, filling the air with the incomparable aroma of fresh coffee.
Our coffee comes from Chiapas in the Mexican Cordillera, where pioneers have been growing coffee using biodynamic methods (the same method used at the L'AUBIER farm) for over 60 years. It is cultivated with great care by the Finca Irlanda cooperative, which has been Demeter certified since 1967!
Biodynamic cultivation promotes the healthy development of coffee bushes, resulting in a very aromatic coffee. The plantation was established on rather rugged but very fertile soil of volcanic origin. After being harvested by hand, the coffee beans are washed and then left to dry in the sun, before finally being sorted, also by hand. Many families work and live on the plantation all year round.
Fair trade has been practiced from the outset. As a result, villages have gradually grown, enabling the construction of kindergartens, schools, and health clinics, providing the indigenous population with education and healthcare. The foundation also aims to encourage good social practices among other companies in the region by setting an example.
The plantation is also home to eight endangered bird species, which the Finca's founding family strives to protect through its foundation.
Enjoy all this when you drink a coffee in Neuchâtel or Montezillon.
