The firm was founded in 1960 under the name Pierre et Claude Dériaz, consulting engineers. Since 1975, it has been organized as a public limited company under the name Géotechnique Appliquée Pierre et Claude Dériaz & Cie SA, which became GEOTECHNIQUE APPLIQUEE DERIAZ SA (abbreviated to GADZ) in 1997.

GADZ has focused its activities on geotechnical studies and civil engineering infrastructure works, with a particular focus on the environment.

From the outset, it has had its own soil mechanics laboratory.
