DLC coating - Diamond-Like Carbon
Our DLC coating is deposited using a patented low-temperature process (below100°C ): hardness up to 7000 HV, low friction coefficient, high resistance to corrosion and wear
Thanks to our patent, the thin DLC coating layer (0.2 to 1.5 microns) can be applied to most metallic materials and non-metallic materials such as PEEK.
The patented dropless® technology offers additional qualities: higher sp3 percentages, hardness up to 7000 HV, lower roughness, more compact DLC layer.
- Low deposition temperature. Deposition temperatures below 100°C thanks to our patented process. Our DLC can be deposited on almost all metallic and non-metallic materials such as silicone, glass, ceramics, and polymers that can withstand temperatures of 80-100°C.
- Coating thickness from 0.2 to 1.5 microns. The thin coating layer (0.2 to 1.5 microns) guarantees precision and surface consistency; on request, we can achieve a thickness of 15 microns.
- High hardness
- Low friction coefficient
- Wear resistance Chemical stability
- 100% biocompatibility
- Electrical insulation
- Corrosion resistance
- Optical transparency
- Smoothness
Basic information about Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC)
DLC is amorphous carbon that has some of the valuable properties of diamond.
It is a thin carbon-based coating that can be applied to almost any material compatible with the vacuum in which it is usually produced.
It has unique properties of natural diamond such as:
- Low coefficient of friction
- High hardness
- Chemical stability
- High corrosion resistance
- 100% biological compatibility
DLC exists in 7 different amorphous carbon configurations; they differ in their sp3 hybridized carbon atom content. DLC coatings produced using Argor-Aljba's filtered arc PVD process are composed of balanced percentages of carbon, optimized for specific fields of application. The remaining percentage of carbon improves sliding properties.
The low deposition temperature of the patented process (below 100°C) guarantees the consistency of the coating's properties throughout its service life. This is one of the USPs (unique selling propositions) of the Argor-Aljba coating process.
Patented dropless® technology
- Higher percentage of diamond in DLC (sp3>85%)
- Hardness up to 7000 HV
- Very low percentage of surface droplets (< 4%)
- Very compact DLC layer
Patented coating system
dialong® and dianoir® are obtained using an exclusive, internationally patented process based on the filtered arc PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) process
Compared to the CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) process, our deposition takes place at a very low temperature (<100 °C)
- Drilling, milling, turning, and cutting at higher speeds with lower cutting forces
- Longer service life: reduced production costs, increased availability of production facilities
- Less friction: reduction or elimination of the use of coolant, lower production costs, and lower environmental impact
- Customized coating layer: the shape and cutting edge of the tool are preserved
Customers confirm the superior properties of our coatings.
