The vehicles are regularly replaced.

Learner drivers can choose which driving instructor they would like to learn with. Internal changes are possible at any time.

Driving lesson prices for cars
One lesson lasts 45 minutes, but 60 minutes is usually agreed upon.

• 45 min. CHF 80 / 60 min. CHF 105
• Small subscription: CHF 500 (full 5 hours in advance instead of 525)
• Large subscription: CHF 1000 (10 full hours in advance instead of 1050)

In addition, the mandatory comprehensive insurance of CHF 100 must be paid at the beginning of the training.


How do I get a driver's license?

1. If possible, attend a first aid course before the age of 17, but note that the certificate is only valid for 6 years.
    
2. Fill out the application form for a learner's permit (before the age of 17). Attach 1 photo.
    
3. Take the form to an optician and have your eyes and hearing tested (tests must not be more than 12 months old!).
    
4. Then go to the residents' registration office or the road traffic office IN PERSON for identification and present your ID, passport, or foreigner's ID card. Important: only originals will be accepted.
    
5. You will then receive a registration form for the theory test from the Road Traffic Office. The theory test can be taken 1 month before you turn 17. There is no limit to the number of times you can retake the theory test if you fail. Waiting period: approx. 3–5 weeks.
    
6. Theory test passed: You will receive your learner's permit on your 17th birthday.
    
7. You are now allowed to drive accompanied by a driving instructor or private individuals who are at least 23 years old and have held the relevant driver's license for at least 3 years.
8. New from 2021: You can start at 17, but you must now have at least 1 year of driving experience and be at least 18 years old before you are admitted to the driving test.
9. Before the practical test, you must now attend traffic theory lessons at a driving school, which lasts 4 evenings of 2 lessons each. (or 2 evenings of 4 hours each)
10. Take the practical driving test.

Of course, you should also take a few driving lessons with a driving instructor in between. It helps. Important: Practice what you have learned as much as possible at home.

After passing the driving test, you must attend the WAB course (advanced training courses) lasting 1 day within 1 year! Otherwise, your license will no longer be valid. (It is possible to apply to make up the day, but you may only drive again after that).


Motorcycle

Peter Räber teaches all motorcycle categories.

Please note: The basic motorcycle course must be attended within 4 months of receiving your learner's permit!

From 2021, only a one-time 12-hour course will be required. Regardless of the category.

Prices for basic motorcycle courses

• 12 lessons: CHF 520
• 4 lessons: CHF 220 (whether 4, 12, or no lessons at all is stated on your learner's permit)

Motorcycle training procedure
The following applies to all applicants who do not yet have a category B or A1 license:

• First aid course (license must not be more than 6 years old)
• Send the application form for a learner's permit to the Road Traffic Office
• Complete the basic theory test:
• from your 15th birthday for A1, max. 50 cc/45 km/h,
• from your 16th birthday for A1 max. 11 kW power

You will then receive the learner's permit for the desired category.

All others must also order a learner's permit. You are not allowed to drive without one.


Trucks, buses, and C1

Peter Räber is very fond of trucks. He himself worked as a truck driver for several years.

Driving lessons are given on a Mercedes Actros 1844 truck (cat. C) and trailer tests on a semi-truck (cat. E semi-trailer truck).

You can no longer take the truck test as a direct entry. First, you must have passed the car test (cat. B). Then truck (cat. C). Only when this has been passed can you take the trailer test (C/E).

Peter Räber provides training for C1 heavy motor vehicles with a total weight of 3.5 to 7.5 tons (motorhomes, fire trucks, ambulances) in his own vehicle and, if necessary, in student vehicles.

Theory lessons are held in Au/ZH (opposite the train station). Truck theory courses (additional technical test on legal and vehicle technical knowledge) are held on an ongoing basis.

Car

New regulation:

• A technical theory test must also be taken
• Proof of driving experience:
  – Normal case: Regularly driven a category C motor vehicle for one year (within the last two years)
  – Without proof of driving experience: Minimum training in accordance with the guidelines of the Federal Roads Office (at a driving school)
