Plaster

What matters ...
Once the house is built, it is plastered, both inside and out. It is easy to forget that plaster not only has a visual function, but also performs important technical tasks. Inside, it acts as a buffer for humidity, while outside it is directly exposed to all weather conditions such as heat, cold, frost, rain, wind, and sun, protecting the house.

For centuries, plaster has been made predominantly from inorganic mineral components.
This remains the case today. The binding agent used makes a big difference.

Marble, quartz, limestone, and sand are basic components of every type of plaster. The choice of the appropriate binder, such as gypsum, lime, cement, potassium silicate, silicone resin, or polymer resin, gives the plaster its desired properties depending on the requirements.

This results in gypsum and lime plasters for interior use and lime-cement or cement plasters, silicate, silicone resin, and synthetic resin plasters for exterior use.

Insulation

In construction, insulation means sealing against air, sound, heat, cold, moisture, and also electricity.
Insulation is one way of thermally insulating a building.
This external thermal insulation can be compared to a warm garment, a warming shell, in which the building is wrapped.
But beware: such cladding is not always easy and problem-free.

Stucco

It's time to make some changes...
The word comes from the Italian stucco, which means a type of mortar made from lime and finely crushed marble. This stucco is used to make all kinds of decorative elements in architecture, such as foliage, festoons, and much more, which are collectively referred to as stucco work. In buildings, stucco work is mainly used to decorate cornices and ceilings in rooms, but it can also be applied to exterior surfaces, provided they are not too exposed to the rain.

Stucco is soft, like clay, and can therefore be worked with small iron spatulas. When freshly mixed, which requires nothing more than mixing about half (more or less) burnt fresh plaster with fresh masonry mortar, it is very soft and is gradually applied to the place where the decorative elements are to be attached. After a short time, it becomes somewhat stiffer, so that it can either be pressed into molds or shaped in any other way as desired: however, as you work with it, it becomes increasingly stiffer, so that you can finally cut and scrape it with various iron instruments to create all kinds of fine decorative elements.

If it is made diligently and carefully at a time when it can become completely hard before frost or rain falls on it, it is also very durable on the outside.
