Health promotion and prevention focus on being healthy, staying healthy, and becoming healthy. Health refers to physical, mental, and social well-being. In practice, this means strengthening people's health resources and minimizing risk factors. This requires not only individual behavior, but also the creation of health-promoting structures and living conditions.
In the canton of St. Gallen, the Office for Health Care is responsible for actively promoting the health of the population.
IN THE SERVICE OF HEALTH
The Office for Health Care motivates the population to adopt healthy behaviors and is committed to promoting health-promoting conditions in the canton. We are also responsible for implementing federal and cantonal legal tasks. These include, for example, cantonal vaccination programs, school medical services, and youth protection measures in the area of alcohol and tobacco. To achieve our goals, we work together with healthcare providers and public and private institutions and organizations such as municipalities, schools, and businesses. We cover a wide range of topics, including protection against communicable diseases, early detection programs, fall prevention in old age, exercise and nutrition, workplace health promotion, mental health, and addiction prevention.
