Dr. V. Nam Tran

Dr. TRAN is a cardiologist specializing in heart rhythm disorders. A graduate of the University of Lausanne, he completed his training in internal medicine and cardiology in Philadelphia (Hahnemann University Hospital) and Geneva (HUG and Hôpital de la Tour), then completed a fellowship in rhythmology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. He worked as a senior registrar in Bern and Lausanne. He is currently a certified physician at Lausanne University Hospital.

In cases of cardiac arrhythmia, the heartbeat becomes irregular, too slow, too fast, or the next heartbeat occurs too early.

Tachycardia attacks, where the heart beats extra beats from time to time, can also occur in healthy people.

How is cardiac arrhythmia treated?

Depending on the type of arrhythmia, medication, a pacemaker, or a defibrillator can restore the heart rhythm. In the case of atrial fibrillation, it can be helpful to lose weight, stay physically fit, and avoid alcohol. Ablation can be used to treat the electrical conduction system that sends the wrong signals. This is done using a catheter inserted into the groin and threaded up to the heart.
