Hotel Restaurant zum Kreuz

In the local history of Ober-Wichtrach, the cross is mentioned as early as 1532 as the Furmannstaverne.

At the time of the river cruises, the Aare raftsmen (calf fleet)

used to stop off at the Fuhrmannstaverne zum Kreuz.

Their return journey to Thun was by axle. If necessary, the Kreuzwirt provided a hitch, as the inn had its own smithy and stables,

Barn, horse and cart, and also had the right to butchery.

The dance hall resounded with lively melodies on Sundays and feast days.

Around 1532, the records mention a courtroom (Zwing).

The courtroom was located in the cross.

She justified the recognition of the tavern right in the important revision manual of 1628. The revocation of 1631 that the tavern was superfluous and should therefore be abolished does not seem to have been followed.

with the designation zum weissen Kreuz

1837-40 Alt Statthalter Johann Indermühle tried his hand at running the Kreuz. From 1879-1895, the Wüthrich family ran the inn, first Johann, then his widow Elisabeth Wüthrich-Moser, then Emil Wüthrich.

Gottfried Liechti-Graf acquired the estate on November 14, 1895, followed by his widow Elisabeth from 1900-1905, followed by his son Fritz Liechti-Hofer.

Since 1960, the family of Hans and Heidi Steffen-Liechti, restaurateur, has been the owner and patent holder.

This means that the efficient and contemporary business has been owned by the same family for more than 80 years in 1975, the European Year of Historic Preservation.

After the Fiori family, the business passed to the Kanthasamy family in 2020.
