Gasthof zum Bahnhof Brenzikofen
In 1896, farmer and cattle dealer Friedrich Tschanz sold his farm in Brenzikofen and purchased a new property in the village as well as building and agricultural land around the planned railway line. Here he put his plans for an inn with a farm into practice, and when the Emmental-Burgdorf-Thun Railway opened its newly built line in 1899, the inn and the associated farm were officially inaugurated. In 1961, the first generational change took place: the innkeeper couple Hans and Margrit Tschanz-Engel took over the business.
Soon, the inn needed to be expanded, both for reasons of age and food hygiene. In 1970, the farm was therefore closed, the cattle sold, and the land leased. The kitchen, dining room, and hall were renovated, and an additional small hall was built in the former threshing floor. The former cowshed was converted into a horse shelter.
In recent years, a few more renovations have been added: the "Kalberhüttli," where cattle dealer Friedrich Tschanz once kept his animals for sale, is now the "Zum alten Rossstall" studio gallery, and the hayloft has been converted into an apartment. Then, in 2000, the next generational change took place: Margreth Tschanz took over her parents' inn. However, her parents continued to help with the business. Hans Tschanz passed away a few years ago, but his wife, Margrit Tschanz, is still actively involved.
The character of a small village pub has remained unchanged to this day. The regulars at the "Bähnhöflis" include young and old, locals, clubs, hikers, cyclists, horse riders, and dog walkers. The menu features many inexpensive dishes from home-style cooking. In the summer months, guests can even enjoy vegetables and salads from the inn's own garden. In addition, a 40-seat terrace with evening sun in the warm season invites guests to linger. The long-standing employees and the landlady look forward to continuing to serve all guests from near and far in the future.
