Domaine Jean-René Germanier SA

Route Cantonale 291, 1963 Vétroz

WELCOME TO THE DOMAINE Gilles Besse and Jean-René Germanier are pleased to welcome you to the Germanier page and invite you to explore their Domaine. Their joint passion for wine and its « terroir » finds full expression in the exceptional crus that have shaped the Domaine’s outstanding reputation. THE CELLAR Visit and Tasting THE DOMAINE AND ITS WINE CELLAR – PLACES STEEPED IN HISTORY Our Domaine is located in Balavaud, a hamlet of the comune of Vétroz situated at the heart of the Valais and the Rhone Valley, famous for its warm, dry microclimate in the summer months. Our imposing wine cellar and other facilities for winemaking, aging and bottling greet visitors at the entrance to the village and are open for tour by appointment. A site of particular interest and well worth a detour is the ancient bicentennial vaulted cellar where our earliest vintages were pressed in 1896. Today this splendid hall steeped in history and emotion is entirely dedicated to the fascination of the world of wine. The cellar is equipped to accommodate groups of up to seventy and offers ideal conditions for wine-tasting in authentic traditional surroundings. Under normal weather conditions it maintains normal business hours in order to allow wine-loving visitors to stop and discover our wines with a leisurely tasting in a uniquely appropriate setting. Evening tastings are also possible on Fridays and Saturdays, and, by appointment, any day of the week. OPENING TIMES FRIDAY : 16h à 23h SATURDAY : 10h30 à 21h Open 7/7 upon request ***** VINEYARDS Close to nature STATE-OF-THE-ART VITICULTURE, SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH NATURE Out of love for the art of winemaking quality is our highest priority. The commitment to quality is also one to wines of pronounced character, which means a voluntary limitation of yield per vine. We are constantly in search of innovative methods, of the true character of our terroirs, of forgotten varieties awaiting rediscovery. Each of our vineyard parcels receives regular, individual care, above all in the fall in order to fix the date of harvest, the pivotal moment for the future character of our wines. We also believe that the care of our vineyards must seek the highest quality grapes while also observing the greatest respect for the environment. For this reason we were among the pioneers in the introduction of integrated production fifteen years ago. This method guarantees the sustainable use of chemical intervention. Today we remain in the vanguard of viticultural practice in harmony with the environment such as planting grass between the rows of vines. For the last five years, we have likewise maintained three estates that are cultivated according to the norms of the label Bio Suisse.

Robert Vuignier (Instructor and Founder)

I started paragliding in 2011 in order to obtain my pilot’s license, which I successfully achieved at the end of 2012. A year and a half after obtaining it, during a thermal flight in Fiesch, I had a real scare when I was sucked into a cumulonimbus cloud. It led to the longest minutes of my life... In shock upon landing, this frightening experience made me stop flying for almost seven years. In August 2020, the urge to fly suddenly came back. I bought some equipment and started flying again. After a day at the training hill, I found myself, not without fear, at the Croix de Cœur takeoff in Verbier the next day for my return flight. I inflate my glider… hold it steady… run a few meters, and finally take off—and I say to myself… what a joy! I even wondered why I hadn’t persisted after my fright, because the feeling of flying like a bird is truly exceptional! But in reality, my body and mind simply didn’t want to continue after that incident. This break turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because now my paragliding addiction is very real and brings me so much joy. The shared joys, the great encounters, and the happiness written on the faces of students and people I fly with are the main reasons that make me want to turn it into my profession. I then decided to train as a tandem pilot and instructor. My fears from that stressful situation turned into strengths. I even made it a guiding principle to be able to practice paragliding as long as possible without ever experiencing such a situation again. That’s also one of the reasons why I set myself the goal of obtaining my paragliding instructor’s license—to help raise awareness among new pilots about the risks involved in this discipline. My motto now is:
