Geomatics is responsible for operating the Regional Geodata Center (RGDZ) and all specialist applications operated in the RGDZ for the agencies and companies affiliated with the RGDZ. The manager is responsible for coordinating GIS applications in the municipal administration with regard to data structure and GIS software. He is the coordinator for current and future GIS projects and GIS-specific intranet and internet projects. He is the contact person for GIS projects of the federal government, canton, and municipalities. He is the system administrator in the specific GIS area and for the specialist application (building and real estate database).

Geographic information systems are information systems for the collection, processing, organization, analysis, and presentation of geographic data. In the municipality of Horgen, this includes official survey data and all utility networks. Based on this basic data, other important data such as zoning plans, nature conservation inventories, water protection maps, hazard maps, etc. are managed in the municipal GIS. Raster data such as orthophotos (aerial photographs), raster overview plans, and historical maps are also available in the GIS.
