The Horgen Civil Registry and Funeral Office is responsible for the municipalities of Horgen and Oberrieden. All civil status cases in both municipalities are registered here.

These include births, deaths, child acknowledgments, name declarations, and gender changes. In addition, preparatory procedures for marriage for all are carried out and declarations for the conversion of registered partnerships into marriages are accepted. The office also issues register extracts and various certificates.

The tasks of the funeral office include receiving notifications of deaths of Horgen residents, arranging funerals, transporting the deceased, and arranging cremations, burials, and funeral services. Relatives of residents of other municipalities must contact the funeral office of their municipality of residence.

In the canton of Zurich, district courts, not civil registry offices, are responsible for divorces and marriage protection proceedings.
